The Lobo Hunger Initiative is an event planned by a service learning class at UNM. Our mission is to promote peace and awareness in our community and to empower people through education.
Throughout the semester we have been learning how to approach this issue and research local hunger in non-exploitive ways. We are conducting surveys to find out about hunger on the UNM campus –a topic never before been researched.
We designed an event to further our goals of peace, awareness and education. Our efforts were presented in an awareness event October 24th from 12 to 2, called the Lobo Hunger Initiative. It took place infont of Popejoy hall on UNM campus and was a wonderful success!

We asked people to skip breakfast that day, and come to our event hungry. This gave people an opportunity to see what it’s like to be hungry for a few hours. At the event, we will presented our research about hunger in New Mexico, supplied information and applications for relief organizations (food banks, food stamps etc), hand out cheap and easy recipes, and provided food.
So many things are out there for the changing! Please come help us build a better UNM campus by adding a community garden. G.R.O.W. Gardens Raise Our World is a student based organization and we could use all the help we can get! |
